Climate

The fight for a future.

Forbes Italy listed her among the 100 most influential young Italians and possible future leaders. The world says she is a climate activist. She says: “I am a biologist; I would like to be a scientist.” She is pragmatic, sensible and knowledgeable.
Fighting as an end to itself is not part of her discourse. She is aware of her role, of the passing of time and the generations to come. Aware that one must act and communicate.
With Greta Thunberg and other young people, she has fostered a worldwide action for change. To do so, she had to face resistance and overcome obstacles.
“Denying a problem is the first tactic. Facing judgement is the second: everyone sees and understands but everyone tries to avoid the issues.” This is the reality we face daily.

Federica Gasbarro speaks of activism by linking it to a valuable word: dialogue. Dialogue must not mean compromise but openness on the part of those who are aware that to change processes, ways, actions, and the world, one needs time, and above all, one cannot do it alone.
Urgency translates into culture and knowledge to be transferred to the younger generation. Federica demonstrates this firstly through her academic career and subsequently with her actions.
Explaining, being open, listening, understanding misunderstandings is the first step towards change. But to intensify the action it is also necessary to confront and assess fear, anxiety, and reject a negative outlook.

The ambition that drives Federica’s story is that individual actions are as fundamental as actions by the community, although timing, methods, and processes to ensure change becomes sustainable are different.
Different schools of thought often create marginalisation even on issues as obvious as climate change. The fear of something bigger and seemingly unresolvable by individuals generates immobility. Thus, a paradox is created whereby those who can find the strength for collective change also become different. An unequal struggle between two opposites that are part of the same story.
