1st Edition – ski4sport 2012
The first introductory Alpine skiing course organized by the art4sport ONLUS Association ended on Sunday. The course took place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March and involved a group of seven children aged between 7 and 16, who were supervised by three instructors specialized in teaching Paralympic skiing, their parents and a large support staff.
The collaboration of Edy Romeo (the association’s regional representative for the Aosta Valley) and the Pila ski resort, as well as the support of orthopaedic technicians and part of the Ottobock staff, a manufacturer of orthopaedic prostheses, was also fundamental. The students also appreciated the presence of Paralympic ski champions Francesca Porcellato and Luca Carrara.
All the participants were young art4sport team members, the team of athletes that art4sport helps to make their sporting dreams come true: Beatrice “Bebe” Vio, 15-year-old under-18 world champion in wheelchair fencing; Davide “Dade” Obino, 16-year-old athlete of the Italian under-20 wheelchair basketball team; Emanuele “Ema” Lambertini, Italian under-20 wheelchair fencing vice-champion; Francesco “Messi” Messori, 13-year-old footballer who plays football with only one leg and two crutches; Mariabianca “Kikka” Peonia, at her second experience with skiing (she is a leg amputee and only uses one); Riccardo “Riki” Cattaneo, the youngest of the group, who is a fan of swimming and football; Veronica “Yoko” Plebani, the team’s newcomer, immediately proved to be very capable and willing, and dreams of returning to snowboarding and canoeing
