Emanuele was born in Cento, Italy, on February the 21st 1999. He now lives in the province of Bologna, in San Giovanni in Persiceto, he studies automation engineering at the University of Bologna and one of his biggest goals is to realize new prosthesis.
He was born with a very rare vascular malformation in his right leg, which has degenerated over the years. After painful and incessant treatment in Italy and abroad, he had to undergo trans-femoral (above-the-knee) amputation at the age of eight and a half.
From then on, Emanuele has had a dynamic, emotional and physical growth that has turned him into a lively, outgoing and always smiling boy.
Despite the fact that the serious illness left a deep mark on him, he is now a young man with a kind, open and sociable character, always ready to set himself new goals to achieve and limits to overcome.
He started playing the piano at the age of 12 as a self-taught musician and it soon became his second great passion, so much that he decided to become a composer, always trying to transform his thoughts and emotions into musical pieces.
Emanuele approached the sporting world for the first time at the age of 10. In December 2009, following advice from CIP, in the person of Mr Gianni Scotti, Regional President, he had his first approach to wheelchair fencing at the Zinella Scherma gym in San Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna).
Thanks to the teachings and passion of his teacher Magda Melandri, he immediately fell in love with this sport.
In just a few years, he has had several debuts and satisfactions in international competitions of absolute level, soon entering the absolute Paralympic National Team. As one of the youngest athletes on the national team (since Paralympic youth fencing is not yet very developed), he has always competed exclusively with athletes much older than he is. He has achieved important international results, including the title of World Team Champion and U23 World Champion.
In 2016, at the age of just 17, he was the youngest participant in the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro of the entire Italian expedition.
Emanuele is part of the art4sport team: thanks to the materials provided by the Association and the help of professionals and specialists in the field, he is still making enormous progress. Fencing continues to fill his life with emotions and satisfaction, as well as friendships and new contacts.
Now, on the platform, Ema is training continuously to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, not just to go, but, as he says, to go and win it.
