Ephrem’s story
Ephrem was born in Ethiopia on June the 11th 2011. At a very young age, he had his left leg amputated due to a burn. After the amputation, he spent the first years of his life in Ethiopia in a shelter. In 2015, his path crossed the one of Sara and Alessio, a young couple, and a new family was created in Italy, where Ephrem took his first steps in December of that year.
He has always been a smart, friendly and adaptable child. He knows how to make everyone love him and his characteristic traits are his curiosity and tenacity, because he never backs down and always wants to take on new challenges.
During his first months in Italy, he attended swimming lessons, but he was immediately interested in sport in general, particularly football and basketball. Since September 2017, in fact, he has also been attending the football school of PCQ (his country’s football team).
In 2017 he started playing football with the Stampelle Azzurre (Azzurre Crutches) and thanks to them he was able to participate in the European Junior Camps for amputee football in Warsaw 2017, Rome 2018 and Walldorf 2019.
Since 2018, thanks to his new running leg Ephrem has been able to run, jump and play to his full potential.
In addition, thanks to his participation in sky4sport events, Ephrem has been able to get closer to the world of skiing and since 2019 he has been attending Paralympic skiing courses at the Enjoyski Sport association.
He is a fan of Juventus, in particular Dybala and Chiellini, but also of Basket Brescia and the Italian national basketball team from which he admires Cincarini and Datome. His favourite sportsman, however, is Giannis Antetokounmpo!
Mum Sara and dad Alessio became aware of art4sport after reading a post on Jovanotti’s Facebook page.
Ephrem joined the art4sport team in 2017: the art4sport ONLUS Association represented an opportunity to meet new friends, make new experiences and compare his family with others.
