Sara’s story
Sara was born in Gavardo, in the province of Brescia, on November 8th 1995. She has always been a great dreamer with a great desire for independence and many projects that, as an 18-year-old, flow whirling through her life: driving, travelling with friends, thinking about university, parties and skiing.
On January 29th2014, however, all of these projects had to be stopped for a moment when she was struck down by septic meningitis, leading to the bilateral amputation of her lower limbs from the knee down and the amputation of all the phalanges of her fingers. The despair of the first months gave way to acceptance of the disease and the simultaneous struggle to fight it. Mum Bruna says: “Sara was a rock and held on even in the darkest days”.
The experiences of those who had gone through this great challenge before her were a great comfort: Bebe, Veronica Plebani and their parents, who through their example helped Sara to see that nothing is lost and that there are still many things that can be done to return to living life to the full. Sara has become more grown up and determined, with a strong desire to walk again, to drive, to go back to skiing and to take her life in hand again, and this she demonstrates every day, conquest after conquest.
Mum Bruna describes Sara as “a peaceful and silent warrior” and hopes that the collaboration with art4sport will help her even more to face the many challenges that life will bring.
