Mayra’s story
Mayra was born in Milan on February 2nd 2005. When she was only 5 years old, she started to practice ballet and her results were very good. On May 30th 2017 she was hit by a tram on her way to school. Her left foot was caught between the tracks and the wheel, forcing her to have her forefoot amputated.
The family’s first feeling after the accident was one of fear: no one knew what the healing process would be like and what the consequences would be. Mayra was devastated because she thought she would never be able to walk again without help and was afraid of the reactions her mates might have.
Then she realized that many things she used to do could be done again, maybe in a different way! She is reserved, brave and has a lot of willpower, which helped her a lot after the accident. Now her greatest wish would be to go back to dancing, to focus on modern dance, to improve and learn different styles.
The meeting with art4sport came about through friends in common with President Teresa and Bebe. Meeting the Association has given Mayra and her family a new positive energy, now they don’t feel alone!
Mayra joined art4sport in October 2018: she hopes that the Association can help her design a new prosthesis that will allow her to return to dance!
