Marta’sstory
Marta was born in Treviso on the April 1st 2000. In 2016, after a few check-ups due to ongoing pain in her right leg, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Initially it was decided to insert an internal knee prosthesis, but at the beginning of 2018 the disease recurred. At that point, due to a recurrence, and after a course of chemo, she had to experience her lower left limb disarticulation.
Marta describes herself as a ‘mother-in-law’ because she is always bugging and complaining about things that don’t go well for her.
Sport has always been an essential part of her life and she played volleyball from 2009 to 2016 but also downhill skiing from 2004 onwards.
Athletes she admires most are Alex Zanardi for his grit and fortitude, Bebe Vio for his competitive spirit and Ivan Zaytzev because he is the opposite hitter on the national team, the same role she played.
Her short-term goal is to find a sport that gives her the same emotions as volleyball, while in the long term she is aiming for the Paralympics in Paris 2024.
In July 2019 Marta graduated at the Giordano Bruno scientific high school in Mestre and in September of the same year she started the faculty of chemistry at the Ca’ Foscari university in Venice, but she dropped out in October 2020 after learning that she had entered the faculty of medicine and surgery at the university of Udine where she is still studying.
She met art4sport through Claudio Pavanello, who is her physiotherapist but also Bebe’s physiotherapist, who told her about the association and put her in touch with President, Teresa. She took part in the 2018 edition of ski4sport in Cortina, which made her feel at home, she felt happy and now she wants to try every sport possible.
The desire to start playing sports again has allowed her to react, despite the fact that she is now less independent than before, and to show the orthopaedists that her life is much better than they had predicted.
Marta joined the art4sport team in 2018: art4sport can help her discover the Paralympic world in all its aspects.
