“Come on, what’s the matter?”

Pietro’s story

Pietro was born on May 20th, 2011 in Lodi.

On March 17th, 2017 he underwent surgery to close an interatrial defect diagnosed at birth. In the night, following complications, Pietro was struck by a violent hemorrhage and after two lengthy surgeries he was stabilized but it became necessary, however, to amputate his right lower limb.

The parents greeted the doctors’ decisions with hope, certain that Pietro would wake up, and he did.

Pietro reacted to what happened with courage, supported by the ‘unconditional love of the whole family, becoming more mature and reflective. Mom and dad saw him as a silent warrior capable of facing great trials without complaining, demonstrating a stubbornness that would lead him to achieve all his dreams.

After his amputation, Pietro began cycles of physical therapy, which he continues to this day, while also trying out various sports.

He immediately began attending FISPES Itinerant School rallies, initially trying his hand at soccer on crutches and later also at athletics. He also participated in the EAFF-UEFA Junior Camps in amputee soccer.

His great winter passion is skiing, which he got to know thanks to art4sport; during the ski season he attends introductory ski courses with the FISPI-affiliated ASD Ski Passion.

Summer 2022 has sparked another great passion in him, that of basketball, and Pietro’s dream is to be able to “basketball” like the champions seen on TV.

The sports personalities he most admires are, first and foremost, the boys of the art4sport team from whom he draws inspiration and whose successes he follows; in addition to them, he greatly admires Paolo Maldini, about whom his father has always told him, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Lebron James.

His parents learned about the art4sport association while Pietro was in intensive care thanks to the support he received from the very beginning from President Teresa Grandis.

Meeting Teresa and the Association was a real boost of courage and hope for the future for the whole family.

 Pietro joined the art4sport team in 2017.

Pietro’s sports achievements

  • He participates in a demonstration of running, long jump and vortex throw along with other athletes from the FISPES Itinerant School at the Track and Field Championships held in Padua.
